Who We Are

In this house we live up to our name. We strive for camaraderie, teamwork, patience and honesty. We are accepting of each other and we have open communication. We ask for and encourage positive and supportive feedback. We stand shoulder to shoulder. This is home. You are safe and welcome.

WHO WE ARE

A Place Where Women Can Feel Supported, Connected, and at Home

At Sunlight’s Sister, we believe that recovery is about more than staying sober. It is about rebuilding confidence, creating healthy routines, developing meaningful relationships, and learning how to move forward with purpose. Our women’s sober living home in Pennsylvania provides a safe, structured, and encouraging environment where residents can continue strengthening their recovery while preparing for greater independence.

We understand that the transition from treatment or early recovery into everyday life can bring new challenges. Having the right environment during this time can make a meaningful difference. Sunlight’s Sister gives women a place where they can focus on their next steps without having to navigate them alone.

Our home is built around compassion, accountability, connection, and personal responsibility. We encourage every resident to become an active participant in her recovery, support the women around her, and continue building the skills needed for a healthy and fulfilling future.

More Than Sober Living—A Community of Women Moving Forward

A sober living home should be more than simply a place to stay. At Sunlight’s Sister, we strive to create a genuine sense of community where women can feel understood, respected, and encouraged.

Living alongside other women in recovery provides opportunities to build connections with people who understand many of the challenges and accomplishments that come with this journey. Residents can celebrate milestones together, encourage one another through difficult days, and experience the value of being part of a community with shared goals.

This sense of sisterhood is at the heart of who we are.

While every resident has her own story and individual path forward, no woman has to feel as though she is taking those steps alone. Through shared experiences, mutual respect, and everyday encouragement, residents have the opportunity to develop relationships that can become an important part of their recovery support system.

Our Mission

To provide a sober living home with the highest standards of care as a foundation for purposeful long-term recovery for women.

We are a recovery housing organization that honors all pathways to recovery, geared toward improving the quality of life for women healing from substance use disorder as they become healthy, happy, and whole.

Our Values

Integrity: We do the right thing.

Honesty: We tell the truth in our words and with our actions.

Service: We find joy, connection, and healing in service to others.

Building Independence Through Our House Phase System

Recovery is a process of learning, practicing, and gradually taking on greater responsibility. At Sunlight’s Sister, our House Phase System provides residents with the structure and support needed to strengthen their recovery while progressively earning greater independence and flexibility within the home.

Advancement is based on more than simply the amount of time spent in the home. Residents demonstrate their readiness to move forward by consistently following house expectations, remaining engaged in recovery, meeting financial responsibilities, maintaining employment or actively seeking work, and living according to our core values of integrity, honesty, and service.

As residents move through each phase, they are given increased opportunities for independence, including later curfews, overnight privileges, and greater flexibility outside of the home. At the same time, women are encouraged to become positive examples within the community by supporting newer residents, developing leadership skills, and taking greater ownership of their recovery.

The Orientation Phase provides new residents with time to become familiar with the home, establish a consistent routine, and begin building a strong recovery foundation. During this initial period, residents follow greater structure around activities outside the home while focusing on employment, recovery meetings, outpatient or mental health appointments, and other important recovery-related responsibilities.

Phase I introduces greater flexibility as residents demonstrate their ability to balance recovery with everyday responsibilities. Women continue actively working toward their recovery goals while maintaining employment, attending meetings, following household expectations, and becoming more involved in the Sunlight’s Sister community.

At this stage, residents may begin earning additional privileges, including increased flexibility and approved overnight visits. They are also encouraged to provide encouragement and support to women who are newer to the home.

Phase II represents another important step toward independent living. Residents who reach this phase have demonstrated continued commitment to their recovery, personal responsibilities, and the values of Sunlight’s Sister.

With increased independence comes an opportunity to become a stronger role model within the home. Phase II residents may help mentor newer residents and may be considered for additional leadership or management responsibilities within the house.

The goal during this phase is to continue strengthening the routines, relationships, and recovery practices that residents will rely on beyond sober living.

Reaching Phase III is an accomplishment worth celebrating. By this point, residents have demonstrated their ability to maintain recovery, fulfill their responsibilities, and navigate greater independence while remaining actively connected to their recovery community.

Phase III provides women with the greatest level of independence and helps prepare them for their next chapter. Residents may become eligible to transition into a step-down living environment and are encouraged to continue participating in recovery meetings and support systems because they recognize their ongoing value—not simply because they are required.

The ultimate goal of our phase system is not simply to earn privileges. It is to help each woman develop the accountability, confidence, healthy routines, leadership skills, and independence she needs to continue building a fulfilling life in recovery.

The Power of Sisterhood in Recovery

Connection can be one of the most powerful parts of recovery. Isolation often makes difficult moments harder. Community creates opportunities for encouragement, perspective, accountability, and belonging.

At Sunlight’s Sister, residents live alongside women who are also working toward healthier futures. This shared experience can create a unique sense of understanding that is difficult to find elsewhere.

Sometimes support means having someone celebrate an accomplishment with you. Other times, it means having someone remind you why you started when things feel difficult.

Over time, these everyday moments can help transform a house into a community. Our hope is that every resident experiences what it means to be surrounded by women who want to see one another succeed.
